I am a Costa Rican-American director and screenwriter, born in the US to a Cuban-Costa Rican family and raised in Costa Rica. I studied Communication Sciences with an emphasis in Audiovisual Production at the University of Costa Rica. Later, I studied Screenwriting for Film and Television in the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City, where I was based for seven years, working on films and television shows for Netflix and other streaming platforms as a screenwriter. My approach to directing has been a personal journey that has opened many doors to to ponder our roles in society and our existence, exploring the formal language of cinema.

With my second short film, Night Light (2022), I became the first Costa Rican filmmaker to compete for the Palm d'Or in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. My shorts Suncatcher (2021) and The Moon Will Contain Us (2023) have been screened at esteemed venues, including NYFF, the Locarno Film Festival, Mar del Plata, and New Directors/New Films at MoMA and Lincoln Center. My debut feature film, If We Don’t Burn, How Do We Light Up The Night, now in post-production, participated in esteemed development programs such as La Fabrique Cinéma and Cinéma de Demain Focus Co Pro at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2022, I served as a Guest Artist at CalArts University. In 2023, I joined the Berlinale Talents Program as a director and screenwriter and in 2024 I joined the Locarno Filmmakers Academy.
