Night Light

Luz Nocturna (2022)

Costa Rica ★ 14 min

Three siblings grapple with solitude as they learn of their mother's departure with no return. The forest, both companion and specter, weaves its ethereal presence—a haunting echo that lingers in the spaces between their shared moments.

How it started.

From the modest seed of financial aid intended for a teaser of my upcoming feature film, "If We Don’t Burn How Do We Light Up the Night," my short "Night Light" blossomed. In a landscape where short film support in Costa Rica is scarce, I recognized an opportunity to stretch the allocated aid and crafted a short film with the same budget. With "Night Light," I achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Costa Rican filmmaker to compete for the Palm d'Or in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival.
